DIY Inspiration + Mood Board

Remember the days before Pinterest when you would collect ideas from magazines and books? I used to have folders for different things that inspired me. Little did I know that I was actually creating physical pinboards! With an overwhelming amount of inspiration coming at you all the time, mood boards are the perfect way to hone in on a specific feel, and display snippets of inspiration.

I tend to be an inspiration hoarder, so I decided to put it to use! This DIY mood board displays imagery, text, and a few favorite memories in one place, without all of the clutter. I’m excited to show you how to make your own!

What you’ll need

  • frame
  • wire roll
  • wire cutters
  • staple gun + staples
  • mini clothespins

Steps

Carefully remove the glass from the frame, and remove or press down any metal tabs.

2  Measure the amount of wire needed to cover the length of the frame, allowing about 1/2 inch of overlap. Use wire cutters to snip from the roll.

3  Staple the wire around the edges of the frame. I placed staples about every 3 inches.

4  Now it’s time for the fun part – decorating!

A few themes to spark design ideas for your mood board:

Since Instagram is where I capture the things that inspire me most, I used Kanvess to print my favorite snapshots.  This app makes it a breeze to order photos directly from your phone! Simply install the application, select which photos you’d like to order, and submit. Within just a few days, you’ll receive perfectly square, beautiful prints!

Next, I added tickets, cards, words, and pretty pieces of paper to tie it all together. There’s no wrong way to do this – simply hang what you love. You can swap and move things around until it feels right.  I found these mini clothespins to be perfect for clipping each piece to the wire.

    • Hi Jennifer! I purchased the wire at Home Depot – it’s usually in the gardening section. It would be with the chicken wire, and it comes in different sized rolls. Hope this helps! :)
