The Goal

When defining your goal, it’s best to make it as short and clear as possible. You’ll nail down the details in later steps. There are a few things to keep in mind when honing in on what you want to accomplish. Goals should be:

  • specific
  • measurable
  • actionable
  • attainable

Your goal should also be a good balance of challenging yet realistic. You don’t want it to be too easy, but you don’t want it to be so difficult that you lose motivation to keep going.

Examples of clear goals:

  • To book 20 new clients this year
  • To increase Instagram community by 1,000 followers in 60 days
  • To read 1 new book per month
  • To become a better cook by making meals at home 2x per week

Examples of vague goals:

  • Save money
  • Increase social media followers
  • Be more healthy
  • Get in shape

Without assigning a specific number or measurable metric, you won’t have a clear view on if you’ve been successful – and most importantly, you won’t know when to celebrate!

The Why

This question is just as important, if not more important, than the goal itself.

Your answer here will fuel your fire and inspire you to take action and do the work.

There’s no wrong answer, it is personal to you and your life. If your motivation starts to slip, circle back to this section to remember why you started.

Questions to ask when determining your why:

  • What is the purpose of reaching this goal?
  • What will I gain from this accomplishment?
  • How will it change my life?
  • What impact will it make on my mindset?
  • What is the outcome I’m hoping for by achieving this goal?

The Plan

This is the fun part. These are the steps that will take you from where you are now to where you want to be.

As the saying goes, failing to plan is planning to fail. This often comes to mind when I’m planning a campaign, or when I’m putting something together last minute because I didn’t take the time to be intentional.

First, it’s crucial to make sure your goal has a start and end date. This can always be adjusted later on down the road if needed, but adding this piece will add a sense of urgency and keep you on track.

Next, break your big goal down into bite size action steps. It may be helpful to begin at the end and work backwards.

A successful goal is made of mini goals, good habits, and consistency.

Once you have your steps listed, pull out a calendar and assign dates to your action plan. The feeling of making progress by crossing off these steps will only help your motivation and drive! Focus on one step at a time, and you’ll be unstoppable.

Oh look, you are now ready to get started. Now go, make it happen! You got this.
