Last May, my dear friend Sarah married the love of her life. You may remember her gorgeous Spring Bridal Shower Brunch! The night before the wedding, Sarah’s mother-in-law hosted the most gorgeous backyard rehearsal dinner.

Walking into this event was like stepping foot in a secret garden. The dreamy details included an arch filled with flowers and greenery, a delicious catered meal, personalized wine bottle labels, fresh-cut bouquets, string lights, and thoughtful place settings. I wanted to photograph every perfect element!

Lisa has a knack for hosting. The natural pieces she incorporated set the scene for an elegant, welcoming soirée.

This party was extra special as it doubled as a gender reveal party for Sarah and Kyle. Seeing the family’s faces when finding out baby Jensen was going to be a little girl was priceless. That photo might my favorite moment I’ve captured, ever.

4 Backyard Rehearsal Dinner Party Tips

If you’re looking to host a beautiful backyard rehearsal dinner party, here are a few ways you can create an elegant, intentional gathering.

You can create an ambiance that feels relaxed, yet extremely special by incorporating a few key elements!

1. Cater the Meal

Leave the food to the pros. Eliminate the stress of cooking for a large group by hiring caterers to prepare and serve the meal for you. This will give you more time to spend time with your guests, which is what occasions like this are all about!

2. Use Linen Tablecloths

Covering the plastic tables with some fresh linens will immediately add elegance and give you a beautiful foundation for your tablescape. Lisa chose white tablecloths which made the space feel light, bright and airy. You can’t go wrong with the timeless look of white tables with greenery.

3. Create a Tablescape

This is where the aesthetic comes to life! Use a natural table runner to set the foundation. Next, layer greens, candles, and lanterns to add height and texture. Since the meal is outside, this is a great opportunity to use dinnerware that looks like real china – but isn’t. White plates with gold trim paired with nice cloth napkins made the table feel perfectly polished.

4. Personalize the Party Favors

Send families home with a little something to enjoy that also speaks to the bride and groom. Personalized bottles of wine with photos of the couple was a nod location of the ceremony (a local winery) and represented their love for wine, of course!
