The Classic Mojito

With St. Patrick’s Day approaching this weekend, I felt it was appropriate to whip up some tasty, minty green mojitos! This light, refreshing beverage is by far one of my favorites. Here’s the scoop on how to make the classic mojito.

Classic Mojito Recipe

Prep

Chill glassware prior to preparing your drinks – a small detail that adds that an extra dash of refreshing.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 lime
  • 10 mint leaves
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • crushed ice
  • 1 1/2 oz. light rum
  • club soda

serves one

Classic Mojito Recipe

1. Muddle* sliced lime and mint leaves with sugar in a chilled glass.

2. Add ice and rum. I tend to be a little generous ;)

3. Pour soda and top with a little mint leaf garnish. Ready to serve!

Classic Mojito Recipe

*Muddling: the process of mashing food ingredients, commonly fruit and herbs. To muddle, place fruit and herbs into a heavy-bottomed glass. Crush ingredients together using a light grinding motion. You can find a variety of different muddling tools here.

These sound soooo good! I love mojitos. I’ve actually tried one that was a mix of a lemon drop and a mojito before, and that was pretty good too. I might have to grab a bottle of rum and some mint leaves and try this out!

    I love a good mojito.

Tip: don’t order one when the bar is really crowded. Some bartenders tend to skimp om the muddling part to save time when they’re in a hurry.

Great advice! Mojitos are definitely a specialty drink – very easy to notice if it’s made properly or not. :)
