Behind the Scenes: Jillianastasia

I was thrilled when Jennifer from Fresh Crush invited me to join the Tour through Blogland! Jennifer is a graphic designer with a passion for paint and turning old furniture finds into beautiful, updated pieces that burst with character. This vintage camping trailer makeover is THE coolest transformation!

Thanks so much for the nomination, Jennifer!

Here’s the inside scoop on what’s been going on behind the scenes at Jillianastasia.

What am I working on?

Junkstock. When i’m not working at my day job or filling orders, all free time for the past month and a half has been spent prepping, creating, and obsessing. Junkstock is a three day event where about 100 vendors come together to sell their vintage and repurposed goods on an old dairy farm. (Check out past photos here and here!) This will be my very first show – of any kind -, and it was an honor to have been selected. Thousands of people from all over attend, and as you can imagine it has been a whirlwind of emotions! Ecstatic, nervous, giddy.. you name it. I cannot wait to show you how everything comes together. *Fingers crossed.*

How does my work differ from others of its genre?

Although blogs have many similar elements and characteristics, what sets them apart in my mind is the personality and style that shines through – both in visuals and in voice. I would like to think that my own style sets me apart from others. When someone says something like “I saw this thing that totally looked like you!” it feels like I’m doing something right.

Why do I write/create what I do?

After graduation, I wanted a way to put all of my hobbies in one place – photography, writing, cooking, creating, social media, the internet in general.. so starting a blog was the perfect solution. This space allows me to keep learning, my favorite part of all.

How does your writing/creating process work?

I keep a notebook on hand to track any and all ideas. Yes, a physical notebook – using the ‘notes app’ just doesn’t cut it for me! Next, I roughly map out which ideas to bring to life, literally. Then it’s photo time. I’m not exaggerating when I say that for every project at least 100 photos are taken, and 3-4 make the cut. After editing the photos, it’s finally time to tell the story behind them. The feeling of completing a post is always so rewarding.

I’ve nominated three incredibly talented ladies to share their story with you next Monday. Be sure to follow along!

Lauren is the darling graphic designer behind Elle & Company Design. She offers branding services and an entire printable library of art prints, greeting cards, templates and so much more. This girl has an eye for gorgeous, effective design. I also look forward to her “Weekly Truth” posts where she shares a different bible verse each week in the form of a free phone background.

Christie from KiKiMac knows how to entertain. She will blow you away with breathtaking weekend retreats and perfectly styled parties. Her blog is FULL of swoon-worthy photography and unbelievable inspiration!

  1. I love this tour! You are so right that blogs are best set apart by the people behind them. And this is a beautiful blog, I’m so glad I stopped by:)

  2. Christie says:

Thanks for the nomination + the kind introduction, Jillian! Loved reading your behind the scenes! Taking 100 photos and using three sounds verrry familiar.
