We are all busy, busy people. It can be so easy to become caught up in our hectic schedules and never-ending lists of things to do that we forget to take time for ourselves. Sometimes even squeezing in a half hour to read during the day feels like a win!
The problem is, when almost every moment of our day is scheduled, we lose sight of the big picture. It is crucial for your mind to take some time to get away, recharge, and realign. Pursuing work-life balance is a journey that will always take effort and intentionality.
3 Ways to Prioritize Time for Yourself
- Schedule at least one weekend a month to log out of social media
- Spend the day outside biking, hiking, or walking
- Book a night at a local hotel or stay somewhere new 1-2 hours away
When the Omaha Marriott Downtown at the Capitol District invited me to enjoy a staycation, I was thrilled at the idea of some downtime! I will admit that finding a weekend to actually schedule some downtime was no simple task, but once I did, I immediately wished I made it happen sooner.
Shortly after arriving, the stresses of life didn’t feel quite so stressful. Following a tough summer with losing my stepdad, becoming sick several times myself, and a heavy workload, this was something I so very much needed!
Our first stop? Starbucks, of course. My favorite coffee is located right inside the hotel which made getting my caffeine fix quite convenient.
After a few experiences with the friendly staff, it was clear to see why this Omaha hotel was just named TripAdvisor’s #1 Traveler-Ranked Hotel in Omaha. The people who work here genuinely care about your stay and will go above and beyond to ensure you have a positive experience – not something that you will find just anywhere.
The modern decor was absolutely stunning! Our room was honestly one of the nicest rooms I’ve ever had the opportunity to stay in. It was so cozy, clean, and quiet!
Although Marriott has many locations across the globe, this specific hotel is locally owned. You’ll find nods to Omaha and its rich history infused across the hotel.
My boyfriend and I especially LOVED the amazing view of downtown Omaha, dinner at Society 1854 where all the food is farm to table, and tasty drinks at Burdock and Bitters! The manager at this craft cocktail bar was so knowledgeable about whiskey – he even introduced Billy to his new favorite: J. Rieger. After dinner we took a stroll around the Capitol District and enjoyed the fun atmosphere!
Pro tip #1: Make time to hang out at the Pano Pool Bar if you’re visiting in the summer.
Pro tip #2: For breakfast, order the All American and have it delivered to you via room service.
Staying at the Marriott downtown was a one-stop date night. It also happened to be the anniversary of when we first started talking. :) What better way to celebrate than experiencing our hometown in a new way?! We had the BEST time!
Scheduling time on the calendar to relax might seem a little unnecessary, but trust me, it is worth it! Relaxation reduces anxiety, lowers stress, and fuels a healthy mind and body and – so why is it something we squeeze in if time allows? When we make it a priority, we’re able to better serve all of the other important areas in our life!
Whether it’s a staycation or a vacation, grab your person or your bestie and enjoy some downtime in a new place. You deserve it!
Thank you so much for hosting us, Omaha Marriott Downtown!
